Laura Lee Oppland

Laura Lee Oppland (aged 65) wife, mother and grandmother passed into the Lord's care on Monday, September 10, 2018. She was born in Saint Louis, Missouri on May 3, 1953 to Paula Gunn (nee Britt) and the late Allen Gunn.
Laura's early years were in Florissant where she attended DeSmet Elementary School. Her family later moved to Spanish Lake where she attended Twillman Elementary School and graduated from Hazelwood Senior High School. In 1975 Laura graduated from the University of Missouri Columbia earning a Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology with a concentration in anerobic bacteriology. Laura was an ASCP certified Microbiologist at BJC Hospitals for 45 years, retiring from her position earlier this year as Network Reference Lab Manager.
Laura's maternal grandparents, Paul and Maxine Britt were very active volunteers at the Missouri Botanical Garden and introduced Laura to the gardens and gardening at an early age. At age four Laura was selected as the Mayflower Queen by the garden. She was an avid gardener her entire life and a member of the Missouri Botanical Garden visiting as regularly. One of Laura's favorite hobbies was making dried botanical wreaths for friends and family.
Laura married William (Bill) H. Oppland Jr. in 1977 and together they had four children. Laura is survived by her Loving Husband, William H. Oppland, Jr., Daughter, Stephanie C. (Robert ) Zelle, Daughter, Lauren A. (Dan) Zes, Daughter, Caitlin S. Oppland, Son, Charles W. Oppland, Grandson, Robbie C. Zelle, Granddaughter, Julia B. Zelle, Grandson, Henry D. Zes, Grandson, Max W. Zes, Mother, Paula M. Gunn (Slidell, La), Brother, Stephan A. (Gary) Gunn (Waukesha, WI), Sister, Carol A. (Steven) Posey. She was greatly loved and will be truly missed by a host of other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her Father, Allen C. Gunn.
Visitation will be held Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, & Receptions, 837 Mid Rivers Mall Drive, St. Peters, Missouri 63376.
Memorial Service will immediately follow at 4:00 pm Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 837 Mid Rivers Mall Drive, St. Peters, Missouri 63376.
Interment will be private.
