Leona June Will
June 20, 1935 — February 9, 2021
Leona June Will, a life-long resident of St. Louis County, MO and longtime employee of Schnucks Supermarkets, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at the age of 85. She was born in Saint Louis, MO on June 20, 1935 to William Sr. and Catherine Blei (nee Babst).
Leona graduated from Ferguson High School in 1951 or 1952. She also attended the school at Old St. Ferdinand Shrine in Florissant, MO (former Old St. Ferdinand School) which was built in 1821 and is the oldest extant Catholic Church between the Rocky Mountains and the Mississippi River.
She will be missed by her family and friends. Many friendships were developed when she entered a skilled nursing facility, 5 1/2 years ago, which lifted her burden of caring for a home as her memory diminished. Her life became care free with a lot of laughter and giggling with fellow residents and the staff who enjoyed her high spirit and laughter as she roamed the halls and visited about.
Leona is survived by her children, Tina M. Thompson, Thomas N. Thompson and John P. McCarthy; her son-in-law, John McCormack; her grandchildren, Mathew (Socheata) McCormack and Alexander McCormack, Joshua McCarthy, Corey McCarthy, Molly McCarthy and Stephen Thompson; her siblings, Dolores Gruenloh, William (Sandee) Blei Jr., and Ray (Camille) Andrews; and her brother-in-law, Don Shouse. She will be dearly missed by many other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, William Blei Sr.; her mother, Catherine Andrews (Blei); her children, Steven M. Thompson and Ginger C. (nee: Thompson) McCormack; her step-children, Michael McCarthy, Kevin McCarthy and Cindy McCarthy; her granddaughter, Lauren Muholland; her sister, Eileen Shouse; and her brother-in-law, George Gruenloh.
Visitation will be from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm with a funeral service to follow at 6:00 pm both on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 837 Mid Rivers Mall Drive, St. Peters, Missouri 63376. Interment will be private.
