Leroy Blakely, Age 84, of St. Peters, Missouri, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2022.
Leroy was born in Greenwood, Mississippi on November 12, 1937 to William Henry and Josephine (nee' Lishman). He was a sweet man that was proud of his Vietnam service and wore his 'Vietnam Veteran' cap everywhere he went.
Leroy and his wife Dorothy G. (nee' Swett) were married on September 17, 1960 in Pembroke, NC.
Leroy proudly served our country in the United States Army. He earned the following honors: Marksman (Rifle), Sharpshooter (Carbine), The Bronze Star, Overseas Service Bar, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Marksman Badge (Pistol Cal.45), Expert Badge (Rifle M-14) and The Meritorious Unit Citation.
Leroy is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy G. Blakely; Brother S.C. Blakely; Brothers-In-Law Vardell Swett, Pernell (dec'd Annetta) and James Bruce (Peggy L.); Children Robert (Patricia) Blakely and Jeri (Malichi) Icenesse; Grandchildren Kirsten and Jared Blakely, Josiah (Kate) Icenesse and Rebekah Icenesse; Great-Grandchild Ezekiel Icenesse.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, William Henry and Josephine Blakely; In-Laws Rev. Thomas and Bertha Swett; Sisters Eloise (dec'd Cecil Ray "Cebo" Little, Jr.) and Frances Delorise Nail; Brothers James W. (dec'd Esta Mae) Blakely and Mary (dec'd Boyce) Andrews; Brothers-In-Law James Swett, Furman (dec'd Gladys) and Tommy (dec'd Shirley): Sister-In-Law Vergie Swett.
Leroy enjoyed spending time with his family, and earlier in life enjoyed hunting, fishing and reading.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at First Baptist Church of St. Peters, 3533 Mid Rivers Mall Drive, St. Peters, Missouri 63376. Visitation will be on April 27, 2022 from 5PM-7PM. Funeral Service will be on April 28, 2022 at 10:30AM, with burial service at 1:30PM at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan Rd., St. Louis, Missouri 63125. A funeral luncheon will be held directly after the burial service at First Baptist Church of St. Peters.
