Lorraine Byrne

Lorraine Aileen Byrne, age 91, of Wentzville, Missouri passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2023 in O'Fallon, Missouri. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri on June 27, 1932 to Charles and Mary Diehl (nee McCullen).
Lorraine was an avid Jitter-Bug dancer. Lorraine and her late husband, James, were known for their Jitter-Bug and Shag dancing. Jim and Lorraine won the Harvest Moon Ball in Chicago in 1960 and were six times city champs. They won over 100 + dance contests in St. Louis and Chicago. Of the many additional highlights they shared were being invited to the National Jitterbug Championship contest in Las Vegas and appearing on the old TV show, Dance Fever! Lorraine also spent 40 + years as a bank teller ending her career at Regions Bank. During her spare time she enjoyed reading a good book while vacationing in Florida where she could work on getting her dark brown tan! Later in her life Lorraine enjoyed volunteering for the Elks Club of Florissant, MO, going shopping with Danielle, and heading out to the casino. Above anything else Lorraine loved spending time with her grandchildren, especially while playing checkers. No one could beat her!
Lorraine is survived by her Son, Patrick John (Lisa) Byrne; Four grandchildren, Danielle Byrne, Gavin (Stephanie Hancock) Byrne, Justin (Jaclyn) Meyer, Joshua (Emily) Meyer; Three great-grandchildren, Lorraine Byrne, Jackson Meyer, Layton Meyer; Sister, Mary Valenti; and a host of other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her Mother, Mary E. Diehl; Father, Charles D. Diehl; loving Husband, James Byrne; Two Brothers, Charles Diehl, Robert Diehl; Sister, Mabel MaCash.
Funeral will be held, at St. Patrick's Church, 405 S. Church St., Wentzville, MO 63385 9:00 AM Visitation. 10:00 AM Funeral Mass with Father Joseph Detwiler. Burial to follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery 2900 Sheridan Road, St. Louis, MO at 1:15.
