Luis Felipe Martinez

December 20, 1952 — January 18, 2022

It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and brother, Luis Felipe Martinez. Felipe, as he preferred to be called, was a bright spark whose smile and joy were infectious. Felipe enjoyed music, singing, dancing, fishing and meeting new people. Wherever Felipe roamed he brought positivity, a passion for life, a passion for the ladies and a love for his adopted homes of St. Louis, Missouri, and Brooklyn, New York. Felipe is survived by his four children, Jacqueline Martinez- Stevens, Dmaris Morales, Arily Nieves, and Luis Martinez Jr, and ten grandchildren. Felipe had numerous friends in New York, Puerto Rico, and Missouri. He is survived by his many cousins and three siblings residing in Pennsylvania, Florida, and Tennessee.

Felipe was deeply religious and held spirituality in the Catholic faith closely. Felipe was born in the town of Utuado in Puerto Rico, known for its mountainous region, magnificent cave systems, and the Caguana Indigenous Ceremonial Park. Felipe survived his parents Enrique Martinez and Maria Blanca Gonzalez-Rivera. Felipe was extremely close with his family and held a deep love for 'La Isla De Borinquen', coming to reside in the United States after he was drafted during the end of the Vietnam War. Felipe is a United States Army Veteran and a master plumber who spent most of his professional career on many construction sites, building several developments and properties in and around the New York City Tri-State Area, as well as working within private residences.

Unfortunately, on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, Felipe lost his long battle with cancer. Felipe was courageous in this battle and had just beaten COVID while undergoing cancer treatment in 2020. Although he passed away he will be deeply missed by all of those who knew and loved him. To quote the anthem of Puerto Rico. Felipe was called to La Tierra de Borinquen Doned he nacido de bajo un ceilo simpre nitido que le sirve de dosel. He will be deeply missed.
