Lydia Marie Wilson was born May 12, 1952 to the union of the late French Albert and Ann George Wilson, in Durham, North Carolina. She attended the Durham City Schools and was a graduate of Hillside High Schools' historic 1970 last segregated class. She attended Durham Technical Community College (Secretarial Science) and was employed for many years with Duke University, Durham, North Carolina.
She grew up and worshiped at Mt. Calvary United Church of Christ where she was baptized and served as an Usher and member of the Youth and the Versatile Crusaders Choirs. In the Youth Choir where she lead the song "I got Jesus and that's enough"! Lydia married Michael Green and they resided in Los Angeles, California where she worked for the E. F. Hutton Group before returning to North Carolina.
In 1999, Lydia moved to Saint Louis, Missouri to reside with her sister. She joined Berea Presbyterian Church, where the Reverend Marilynn D. Turner was pastor, and after study and diligent service to the church and community the Ruling Elders determined her worthy to be ordained as a Deacon and appointed Chairperson for the Pastor's Aide following in the footsteps of her beloved mother, Deacon Ann Atwater Pettiford. Lydia was a consistent member of the Sunday Church School and assisted with the Praise Service. She was known to travel with the pastor for home and hospital visitations and sponsored a community Bible Study.
Lydia later then became a faithful and hardworking member of The Treasure House Church under the leadership of Pastor James and Pastor Jacita Massenberg. Lydia Green was the "fire of praise" in worship service. She had the gift of encouragement. Her strength and perseverance gave the members a willingness to endure through hard times. She was a Great example of a God-fearing woman of courage. She was a teacher without a title. She always kept the faith and she took God at His word. She will be truly missed by the members of The Treasure House Church.
Lydia Green loved on everyone she met until the Lord saw fit that after 65 years, 2 months, 9 days and a few hours sent forth his angels to carry her home.
