Macy Hannah Reed

July 26, 1996 — November 7, 2019

Macy Hannah Reed, age 23, of O'Fallon, MO passed away on November 7, 2019. She was born in Central City, Nebraska on July 26, 1996 to David Reed and Janet Reed (nee Haase).

Macy is survived by her parents David and Janet Reed, her sister, Abigail Lee Reed, Grandparents Kathleen and Robert Montag and Daniel Reed, Aunts Brenda Hollingsworth (Jerry Wingate ) and Rebecca Franco (Roberto Franco), and Cousins Jennifer Abelein, Ashley Lopez, and Jacob Franco, and many other family members and friends. Macy is preceded in death by her Papa and Nini, Jerry and Sharon Haase.

Macy was born in Nebraska, but quickly moved to Indiana and then Cleveland, Ohio before she was six months old. She became a big sister to Abigail before moving to St Louis at age 5 where she really began to enrich people's lives. She made life-long friends and always showed a propensity to care for others, be thoughtful of their needs and wants, and listen and offer good advice. She and her sister became best friends and both were saddened when the other went away to college.

Macy became the Center Director for Mathnasium in 2017 and worked hard to enrich children's lives through math. She was very caring, and the younger students, in particular, adored her. She was always finding new ways to entertain and teach them. She also interacted well with the parents, many of whom were very complimentary of her maturity and knowledge.

Macy lived her entire life knowing that she may not have a long life, so she chose to make it a rich life and not let cystic fibrosis define her. She believed life was about experiences, not possessions. She loved to travel and has friends all over the US and England from her trips to Mexico and the Caribbean.

Few people outside family and close friends were aware she had cystic fibrosis. Macy fought hard to keep herself and her lungs healthy. She really struggled for the past few years, but she started taking a miracle drug in September that was absolutely life changing. For two months, Macy improved every day and became more active, more like a 23-year-old. Although she was always known for her smile and outlook, it was obvious she finally felt great and was gaining confidence in her long-term livelihood.

Macy passed away from a traumatic pneumo-thorax wherein air in her chest cavity collapsed her lung and put pressure on her heart. She fought bravely for four days, but in the end, severe brain damage and the effects of CF were too much to overcome. Macy was an organ donor and parts of her will be used to save or enrich other people's lives.

Our hearts will never be the same, but we are all better people for having loved Macy.
