Madelyn "Mickie" (Toolen) Pruitt

September 23, 1940 - May 12, 2023

Mickie Pruitt, 82, of St. Peters, MO, died Friday, May 12th, 2023 after a lengthy stay at Progress West Hospital. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side.

Mickie was born on September 23, 1940, the 7th of 12 children born to her parents, Thomas and Emily (Levy) Toolen. She was born in St. Louis, MO, where she lived for most of her life. She also spent time living in Florida as a young adult, where she met her husband of 57 years, Ronald Pruitt. Additionally, Mickie and Ron, with their young son, Ronald Pruitt, Jr., lived in Okinawa for 2.5 years while stationed there with the Air Force. Upon returning, the family settled in the suburb of Florrissant, MO, where Mickie and Ron lived until moving to St. Peters, MO in December 2022.

Mickie has now been reunited in heaven with several loved ones who passed before her. These include her parents, as well as 6 siblings, Tommy Toolen, Kitty Pisciotta, Jackie Toolen, Jean Linhares, Danny Toolen, and Kevin Toolen. She was also preceded in death by several beloved brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and nephews.

Mickie is survived by and lovingly remembered by her husband, Ron Pruitt, her son, Ron (Holly) Pruitt, Jr., her three grandchildren, Marissa (Alex) Springer, Chase Pruitt, and Kiersten Pruitt, as well as her great-grandson, Bennett Springer. She will also be dearly missed by her surviving siblings, Mary Rose (Dennie) Fischer, Patti Kratschmer, Michael Toolen, Terry Toolen, and Steve (Gale) Toolen. She is also survived by her aunt, Ginna Brazill, brother-in-law, Loren Pruitt, and sisters-in-law, Charlotte (Chester) Carroll and Mary Ann Toolen. She will be missed by her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and other members of her large extended family, as well as her dear friends, Elaine (Winston) Gifford and Sheri (Jim) Copanas.

Mickie worked for 30 years in the Hazelwood School District as first a teacher clerk, and then a school secretary at both Jamestown and Keeven Elementary Schools. She retired in 2010. Even after retiring, she still returned to work a limited amount of hours for the district each year. She was a parishioner at St. Sabina Catholic Church for 36 years, and attending weekly Mass was important to her. Mickie loved time spent at the shopping mall, and she worked a part time job at Dillard's for 13 years, before resigning to spend more time with her growing grandchildren. Her grandchildren were truly "the loves of her life",and anywhere with her family was truly her favorite place to be. She and Ron Sr. attended just about every performance or sporting event their grandkids ever participated in, and Mickie made a point to talk to and get to know everyone they encountered there. In general, she was happiest around other people, but her greatest joy in life was time spent with her family.

Mickie's life will be celebrated with a visitation on June 22, 2023, from 3:30pm-7:30pm at Newcomer Funeral Home (837 Mid Rivers Mall Drive, St. Peters, MO 63376). A funeral Mass will be held on June 23, 2023 at 10:00am at St. Joseph-Cottleville Catholic Church (1355 Motherhead Road, Cottleville, MO 63304). Burial at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery (2900 Sheridan Road, St. Louis, MO 63125) will immediately follow the Mass.
