Maria Bellia Gerard, a beloved matriarch and vibrant spirit, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2024, in Creve Coeur, Missouri, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 2, 1945, in Bucaramanga, Colombia, Maria's journey began far from the shores of the United States, but her heart grew to embrace this new land as her own.
Maria built a remarkable career as an International Customer Service Manager for Mallinckrodt, where she dedicated many years of her life before retiring, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and dedication. Yet, her proudest accomplishments were not found in the workplace, but rather in the lives of her children, Dina and Marc. They were her masterpieces, her greatest joy, and a testament to the love and perseverance that defined her life. She arrived on American soil at the age of 22, speaking no English, yet her unwavering spirit and larger-than-life personality made it easy for her to capture hearts and create connections wherever she went.
To her family, Maria was not just a mother and grandmother; she was their cheerleader, their source of energy, and a constant reminder to live authentically. Her grandchildren will forever hold cherished memories of her at their sporting events, her enthusiastic cheers echoing encouragement. She affectionately called everyone "sweetie," a name that further reflected her warm nature and genuine affection for all. Many will fondly remember how she made every effort to tell those around her that they were beautiful, an embodiment of kindness that never wavered.
A lover of dancing and being the center of attention, Maria lit up any room she walked into. Her infectious laughter and ability to bring joy to those around her made her the life of the party. She never met a stranger, opening her heart to everyone she encountered. This connection with others was a true gift that she proudly shared throughout her life.
Maria leaves behind her devoted husband, Tom Gerard, their children, Dina (Joe) Farrar-Specker and Marc (Courtney) Gerard; and step-son, Tommy (Shannon) Gerard. Her grandchildren, Tomas, Josie, Andrew, Isabella, Mia, Ethan, Jake, Ava, and Gabriella, were the lights of her life, and she showered them with love and encouragement every day. She is also survived by her brothers, Wilson (Patricia) Mateus and German (Clara) Mateus. Her legacy continues to inspire them all, as she taught them to be true to themselves and embrace life with passion.
Maria joins her cherished deceased family members, including her parents, Efrain and Sara Mateus, and her uncle and aunt, Maurice and Natcha Pereira, in eternal rest.
A visitation to celebrate her life will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home in Chesterfield, Missouri, on September 29, 2024, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. A Mass in her honor will follow at Holy Infant Church in Ballwin, Missouri, on September 30, 2024, starting at 10:00 AM. She will be laid to rest in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Maria's spirit will forever remain alive in the hearts of those she touched. Her love, her laughter, and her ability to embrace both life and people will continue to inspire and unite her family in the days to come.
