Marie T. Nogrady

February 1, 1936 — April 1, 2023

Marie T. Nogrady (nee Damien), April 1, 2023

Loving Mother of Resa (Alan) Manson, Karla Nogrady (Eric Chowning), and Michael (Lisa) Nogrady; dearest grandmother of Michelle and Samuel Manson, Jessica (Tyler) Schwalbert and Joseph Nogrady (Emily Orchard); great-grandmother of Jace Schwalbert; our dear sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and friend to many.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 60 years, Richard W. Nogrady and her siblings Alice Hale, Cecile Spear, Robert Damien, Velma Cote and Joseph (Louie) Damien.

Survived by one sibling, Philipe (Rose) Damien and three godchildren; Linda (Cote) Harris, Kim Damien and Donna (Bechtold) Peters.
Marie was the sixth of seven children born in the front room of the family home located in Old Town, Maine. She was raised in a French-speaking Catholic family. Her father worked as a cook for lumber crews that were out in the Maine woods for weeks at a time and her mother worked at home raising seven children. The home was heated by a wood burning stove. In the winter, snow might accumulate up to the second-floor windows and the inside of the upstairs windows would be thick with ice.

In the summer, Marie worked as a caregiver at a Catholic orphanage and took secretarial courses in high school. She was working as a secretary in an insurance agency when she met her future husband, Richard, who was serving in the US Air Force. They were married in November of 1957 and moved to St. Louis where he had a job waiting for him upon his return from the service. He worked as a machinist with McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Company (Boeing).

They raised three children and traveled around the states camping and visiting family in Maine and Florida. They also enjoyed boating and riding motorcycles.

They were able to retire early and traveled the country in an RV spending their winters in warmer areas. They built a home in Lake Forest Estates in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri and in later years moved to a villa in Chesterfield, Missouri to be by their daughters. After Dad passed away, Mom moved to an assisted living apartment and lived there for five years.

Marie liked to laugh and was quite the character always joking around. Her favorite thing was to drive her grandkids around in the golf cart whilst singing 'Over the River and Through the Woods'. She was an avid reader and loved to eat Maine lobster and clams when she could get them. Her favorite restaurant was Olive Garden and her favorite food was spaghetti and meatballs. She will be very missed by us all.
