Mary Lou Bedard

September 25, 1933 — April 26, 2024

Mary Lou Bedard, age 90, of Chesterfield, MO, passed away on April 26, 2024. She was born on September 25, 1933 in New York, New York.

Mary Lou will be remembered as an incredibly loving and brave Christian servant who cared deeply about her family and children of all ages. She was a cheerful, pragmatic, tenacious, and generous soul who served humbly in West County as a substitute teacher and a business education teacher at St. Louis Community College for adults needing to re-enter the workforce. Mary had a penchant for navigating difficult life circumstances. She was a breast cancer survivor having been one of the first persons nationally to receive radiation implant surgery at age 45. Mary suffered from significant dementia in her final years.

Mary Lou is survived by five adult children, Marjorie Troka, David Bedard, Sandra Abberton, Jeffrey Bedard, and Thomas Bedard, nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Vincent Bedard.
Mary Lou attended Holy Cross Academy high school in Maryland and the University of Maryland where she earned a B.S. in Business Education and played division 1 basketball. She spent her adult career after child rearing as a certified Missouri State Teacher. She once served as President of the National Newman Club. Mary Lou attended St. Louis Family Church and Grace Church St. Louis, finding great solace in her faith in Jesus Christ.

In her free time, Mary Lou enjoyed her grandchildren, line dancing, bike riding, tennis, swimming, and Harry Belafonte music.
