Mary Terese Bober

September 18, 1939 — January 26, 2021

Mary T. Bober (nee Myer) passed away on Date January 26, 2021, Beloved wife of 22 years to Joseph G. Bober; loving mother of Jennifer (Cap) Grossman, Cindy (Jeff) Stites, and Jackie Snyder; cherished grandmother of Jack Grossman, Courtney Stites, Jourdan Trtanj, and the late John Green, Chris Green, and Brendan Stites; loving great-grandmother of Jacob Green and Meadow Shamel; dear sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and friend to many.

Mary had a fiercely independent, driven & entrepreneurial spirit. Widowed at age 22 with two young daughters she worked hard to purchase her own home in upstate New York. Ultimately starting her own dog trimming and breeding business. Her love of animals led to entrée into the world of Quarter horses. Weekends were filled with fond memories of trail rides, horse shows and county and state fairs. A brief marriage and another daughter later led to a move to St. Petersburg, FL in 1972. A chance meeting with St. Louis native, Andy Kuenneke, led to marriage in 1976 and the relocating of the family to St. Louis, MO. Andy lost his battle with emphysema in 1985.

It was in St. Louis that Mary was bitten by the golf bug. When she wasn't playing tennis, bowling or ice skating. Eventually, golf became her game and passion. She became her club champion at Lake Forest Country Club in Lake St. Louis and also her winter club in Florida. She has had an unbelievable 7 hole-in-ones. She has amassed a multitude of trophies for golf. She even went on to become certified as a teaching pro. Unfortunately, these skills did not rub off on the rest of her family.

Mary met her husband Joe in 1998 and they quickly knew it was meant to be. They just recently celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary. Mary was diagnosed with dementia in late 2012. She continued to bowl in the winter until just last year and would even get out and hit a few balls here and there. Two weeks ago she was still dispensing golfing and swing advice to her great grandson. Offering to meet us at the range to work on his game.

She was always upbeat and chipper when you called her on the phone. It was easy to forget that she was battling dementia. We're thankful that she never forgot who any of us were. We're grateful to have had her in our lives as long as we have. She always reminded us that she was her oldest living relative. We are inspired by her zest for living and her positive attitude. She always felt life was for the living. She knew we would all be together for eternity and that once you were gone you were gone to another place. Heaven. Love you Mom. We'll see you there.
