Mary M. Dunham, a cherished soul and beloved member of her family, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2025, in Chesterfield, Missouri, surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 31, 1950, in St. Louis, Missouri, Mary carried with her a hearty pioneer spirit that touched the lives of all who knew her.
A proud graduate of Mehlville High School and later Webster University, Mary earned her Bachelor's degree in psychology and her Master's degree in education. She began her meaningful career at the Child Center of Our Lady of Grace, where she dedicated herself to nurturing the minds of young children. Her passion for education continued at the St. Louis County Special School District, where she served tirelessly until her retirement. Throughout her career, Mary inspired countless students and colleagues alike, leaving an indelible mark on the education community.
Mary's joy extended far beyond her profession. She found delight in simple pleasures—reading, solving puzzles, and sewing beautifully crafted pieces. These hobbies served as reflections of her creative spirit and provided her with moments of solace and fulfillment.
Above all, Mary was most proud of her beloved son, James Gaspar, and deeply cherished her role as a mother. Her family was her heart, and she cherished every moment spent with them. She leaves behind her husband, Al Gaspar, James' fiancée, Chelsea Wherry, and her cherished dog, affectionately known as "the little Rebe". Mary also leaves behind her sister Kathleen and her husband Bill Schallert, who shared in many joyful family gatherings filled with laughter and love.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, James Richard Dunham and Mary Rose Dunham, who undoubtedly laid the foundation for the gentle strength she exhibited throughout her life.
As we remember Mary M. Dunham, we celebrate a life filled with love, dedication, and resilience. Her legacy of kindness and service will surely live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. Mary's spirit will forever remain a guiding light for her family and friends, reminding us of the profound impact one individual can have on the lives of many. She will be dearly missed but lovingly remembered.
Services to honor Mary's life will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home of West County, 2211 Clarkson Road, Chesterfield, Missouri. A visitation will be held on Wednesday evening, March 26, from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm, with a funeral service the next morning on Thursday, March 27 at 10:30 am. Following the funeral ceremony, she will be laid to rest in Bellefontaine Cemetery.
