Mary Louise Gassei was born on October 2, 1927, in Carmi, Illinois and went to be with the Lord surrounded by her family on October 29, 2021 at the age of 94.
Mary Louise attended elementary and high school in Carmi and graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science in Education.
After teaching high school in New Baden and Carlisle, Illinois, she moved to St. Louis, Missouri and worked as a secretary to the office manager at Orchard Paper Company.
In St. Louis, she met and married Wallace (Wally) Kenneth Gassei, who was an industrial artist at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Company, now known as Boeing. They had three daughters:
Mary Sue Scott, Marilyn Jane (Gary) Thompson and Lucy Ann (Daniel) Crown and five grandchildren:
Shaun (Michelle) Scott, Renee (Adam) Hammonds, Lauren (Arthur) Reyna, Jeff (Alyson) Thompson and Matthew Crown.
She also had six great grandchildren:
Brooklyn Sue Scott, age 7, Joshua Dean Scott, age 3, Sloane Ava Hammonds, age 6, Miles Luca Hammonds, age 2, Frankie Renee Reyna, age 2 months and Nora Jane Thompson, age 18 months.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wallace of 55 years, parents Evelyn and Uphan Cook, brother Melfred and sister-in law Francis Cook, and brother-in-law Russell Gassei.
Funeral arrangement are through Newcomer Funeral Home in St. Peters, Missouri.
Visitation will be at Newcomer Funeral Home, 837 Mid Rivers Mall Drive, St. Peters, MO 63376 from 11AM-12PM on Thursday, November 4, 2021. Funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at 12PM at Newcomer Funeral Home. Interment will be at Jefferson Barricks National Cemetery at 10:15AM Friday, November 5, 2021. Procession to Jefferson Barricks will leave from Newcomer Funeral at 8:30AM.
