Mary Helen Moran

August 14, 1934 — March 27, 2025

Kirkwood, Missouri

Mary Helen Moran, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2025, in Kirkwood, Missouri, at the age of 90. Born on August 14, 1934, in St. Louis, Missouri, Mary was a vibrant force in the lives of all who knew her, celebrated for both her fiery red hair and her equally spirited personality.

Mary dedicated her life to the education of special needs children, working tirelessly for St. Louis Public Schools. Her passion for teaching led her to Gallaudet, where she spent the majority of her career. Eventually, her pursuit of knowledge brought her back to school, and she earned a Master's degree in Counseling from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

A woman of depth and compassion, Mary enjoyed reading countless books and practiced yoga, continuing her classes well into her 70s. Her hobbies enriched her life and provided her with joy and relaxation, even as she committed herself to the lives of others.

Among her most treasured memories was a light-hearted moment shared with her daughter Patricia. At Patricia's wedding, Mary, concerned that her daughter might feel cold, chased after her with a coat. In her eagerness, she took a tumble, but thankfully emerged unscathed, leaving behind a cherished story that highlighted her loving nature and fierce protectiveness.

Mary's legacy flourishes through her family, which includes her daughters, Geralyn (Sam) Murphy and Patricia Moran; her son, James Joseph (Lesa) Moran; and her grandchildren, Patrick (Jen) Murphy, Bridget (Kendrick) Cross, Carmen Cochran, Kelley Cochran, Megan (Joey) Haddinger, Courtney (Taylor) Long, and Mark Moran. The joy of her life continued to grow with the arrival of her great-grandchildren, KJ Cross, Alex Cross, Sammy Cross, Ashton Long, Addison Long, and Ellary Long.

Additionally, Mary is survived by her beloved sister, Sr. Helena Monahan, and her brother, James L. (Monica) Monahan, Jr. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, James L. Monahan, Sr. and Helen Monahan; her daughter, Peggy Moran; her son, Frank Moran, Jr.; and her great-granddaughter, Lola Long.

Mary Helen Moran will be remembered not only for her remarkable career and achievements but also for her unyielding love for her family. The pride she held for her grandchildren was immeasurable and served as a constant source of joy throughout her life.
