Mary P. Wakefield "Pat", 95, passed away December 20, 2022. Mary was born on December 6, 1927 in Borger, TX to Leslie A. and Nellie (Jackson) Walters. Mary grew up in the Panhandle of Texas during the dustbowl and the Great Depression.
Mary graduated from West Plains, MO High School in May, 1945 and moved to St. Louis where she went to work at Jefferson Barracks VA Hospital.
She married her husband of 43 years, Hugh V. Wakefield, on April 22, 1950.
In April 1967, Mary went to work for the Regional Commerce and Growth Association of St. Louis (RCGA), retiring in April, 1990. After retirement she spent 32 years traveling, playing bridge, and being the center of her family's life. She liked to refer to herself, along with her family, as the matriarch.
She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, and aunt. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends alike.
Mary is survived by her son, Alan (Lynn) V. Wakefield, daughter, Pamela (Bill) Volz; grandson Alan (Jennifer) H. Wakefield, granddaughter Wendy (Eric) Huffmaster; Great-Grandson, Evan Huffmaster, Great-Granddaughters, Jordyn Huffmaster, Jaiden Wakefield, and Korie Wakefield; and sisters-in-law, Shirley (Kelsey) Walters and Donna (Harold, (Hap) Walters, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh V. Wakefield, Jr., her parents, Leslie (Vivian) and Nellie Walters, her 6 brothers, Kelsey (Shirley) Walters, James (Mary) Walters, Robert (Harriet) Walters, Thomas (Berneice) Walters, Harold (Donna) Walters, and Charles (Doris) Walters.
Mary's services will be livestreamed at the scheduled service time.
