Maxwell “Max” Julius Sidney, age 29, of Murfreesboro, TN, sadly left us on Sunday April 7th. He was born on January 15th, 1995 in Chicago, Illinois to Lisa and Paul Sidney and grew up in Chesterfield, Missouri.
Max attended Marquette High School and played basketball, lacrosse, and football. Following high school, Max earned a football scholarship to Eastern Illinois University. Due to a career ending injury, he left school to pursue his true dream of joining the Army.
Max knew from a young age that he wanted to be in the military. On December 28, 2015, Max joined the Army and graduated from basic training in May 2016. He was a 19D, Calvary Scout, a member of the 3rd Platoon Outsiders, Alpha troop, 1st Squadron 33rd Calvary Regiment out of Fort Campbell. From November 2016 through July 2017, Max was deployed to Kosovo. During his career, Maxwell earned the following awards: Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and the NATO Medal. Following 3 years and 7 months of dedicated service, he received an honorable combat related medical discharge on December 16, 2019.
Maxwell’s brain was wired to work with technology and computers. He worked at Best Buy selling and designing custom home and appliance systems, computers, and more. He was always the go to guy because he was easy for customers to find being 6’8”. At the time of his passing, he was working for First Fleet Trucking Company in data & logistics.
Max enjoyed playing video games, piecing together elaborate Lego sets, getting tattoos, playing with his dog, Akira, and reading fantasy books. He was a dedicated son, loyal brother, and loving uncle. Maxwell was a true gentle giant with a big heart and his presence will forever be missed.
Maxwell is survived by his parents, Lisa and Paul, siblings, Kelsey (Phil), Andrew, Hallie (Brock), and Nolen Davis; his nephews, Lincoln and Logan; grandmother, Gerri Velarde, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and his best friend, his dog Akira. He is preceded in death by his great grandmothers, Dorothy Meyer and Anna Doyle; grandfathers, Michael Velarde and Wallace Burns; and grandmother Martha Burns.
