Mildred "Millie" Adkins, age 79, of O Fallon, Missouri passed away on Monday, August 14, 2023 in O'Fallon, Missouri. She was born in St. Louis City, Missouri on July 4, 1944 to Emmett and Lorraine Schafler (nee Riegert). Before moving to North County, Millie had fond memories of growing up in the Tower Grove Park area which she considered a childhood wonderland. Millie was a 1962 graduate of Normandy High School. She married Layman Adkins at Union Hill Baptist Church in Vienna, Missouri, on March 21, 1964. Before becoming a stay at home mom, housewife, and freelance writer Millie worked at Famous Barr downtown. She served on the Christian Life Committee, volunteered for the American Red Cross disaster relief, was a bell ringer for the Salvation Army, and sold Avon. Millie was very involved as a member of the First Baptist Church of O'Fallon for the past 45 years. She enjoyed music, especially singing in the choir, writing, and she truly loved spending time with family and friends.
Millie is survived by her Husband, Layman; four daughters, Mary Lorraine Adkins, Beverly Marlene (Peter) Hult, Katherine Jean (Jason) Tharp, and Brenda Kaye (Matthew) Brooks; five grandchildren, Alexandria (Julian Calle Cristancho) Hult, Carter Hult, Brooke Tharp, Winter Brooks, and Rayne Brooks; sister, Jean (Edward) Brennan; and a host of other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emmett and Lorraine Schafler; brother, William (Janet) Schafler.
Visitation will be from 9:30 until 11:00 am with a Funeral Ceremony immediately following at 11:00 am Monday, August 21, 2023 at First Baptist of O'Fallon located at 8750 Veterans Memorial Pkwy, O'Fallon, MO 63366. A graveside service will take place on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at 1:00 pm Union Hill Cemetery in Vienna, MO.
