Pearl L. Cavin, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Chesterfield, Missouri, on December 6, 2024, surrounded by the warmth and love of her family. Born on August 15, 1929, in St. Louis, Missouri, she lived a life filled with love, laughter, and countless memories with family and friends.
Pearl was a proud graduate of Fairview High School and member of the cheerleading squad, class of 1947. After high school, she devoted herself fully to her role as a homemaker and a mother, fiercely defending and nurturing her children. Her greatest pride was always her family, a testament to the selfless devotion she exhibited every day. Nothing made her happier than when the family gathered for Christmas and St. Patrick’s Day.
Pearl loved to dance and was known as a wonderful dancer among her friends. She excelled at bowling, participating in local leagues and loved the social gathering of the many friends she made. Pearl also adored the great outdoors, camping with family and friends at Alley Springs and Circle B near Eminence, Mo. Pearl and Ed were long-time members of Cloud 9 Ranch near West Plains, enjoying many days, year-round with family and friends. Ed even helped Pearl learn the art of trout fishing at Cloud 9.
After retirement, Ed and Pearl made many memories traveling together. They traveled throughout the western United States, Alaska and Hawaii as well as numerous Caribbean cruises. There was also a special trip to Ireland to visit the birthplace of her dad. Regardless of the destination, Pearl loved exploring the beauty of nature side by side with the love of her life.
This remarkable lady is survived by her devoted husband of 76 years, Edgar A. Cavin, and her beloved children—Terry J. Cavin, Jill M. (Andrew) Kertz, Patrick J. (Kim) Cavin, and Michael T. Cavin. She held a special place in her heart for her grandchildren, who brought her immense joy: Scott Cavin, Meghan (Tony) Riess, Daniel (Stacy) Cavin, Michelle (Chris) Goddard, Angela Garland, Christopher Cavin, Sarah (Charlie) Cavin Thompson, Adam Kertz, Erin Dwan, and Ryan (Emily) Kertz. Pearl was also blessed with great-grandchildren, brightening her days with their exuberance: Paige Riess, Ariya Cavin, Liam Goddard, Annabell Goddard, Sean Goddard, Noah Thompson, Eloise Thompson, Aurora Dwan, Coraline Dwan, Harrison Dwan, and Sullivan Dwan.
Although Pearl embraced a life filled with love and caring relationships, she grieved the loss of those who have departed. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Dennis A. Cavin, brother James Murphy, sister Helen Murphy, brother Robert Murphy, and her parents, James and Loneida Murphy. Their memory lives on in the stories and love that Pearl shared with her family and friends.
As we remember Pearl L. Cavin, we celebrate her spirit, wry sense of humor and total devotion to her family. We rejoice in the indelible legacy she leaves behind—a family woven together with love, laughter, and a passion for life that will continue to thrive through them. Her memory will forever be a radiant light in the hearts of her loved ones.
Services will be private. Pearl will be laid to rest in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
