Jesus said to her, “I am the Resurrection and the life; the one who believes in Me will live even if he dies.” John 11:25
Rachel Marie Zide Barnes, our beloved daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend was welcomed into Heaven by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 9, 2024, at 10:01 pm. Born on November 6, 1983 in Shawnee Mission, Kansas, she touched the hearts of, many throughout her life with her faith and love for the Lord and her compassion and creativity.
Rachel prioritized reading and studying the Bible and also serving others in the local church. She would volunteer for the nursery and also at VBS. She was encouraged by listening to Joy FM and Allie Beth Stuckey’s “Relatable” podcast. Rachel loved her dear friends, Nicole and her daughter, Grace. The three of them went to countless Christian concerts and enjoyed praising the Lord together. Rachel made it a point to share her faith with others. Time and time again she would see God answer her prayers.
She had a huge heart for animals, adopting dogs and cats from the humane shelter to love and take care of. Rachel was recently raising 18 chickens and had names for many of them.
Rachel used her associate's degree in science to work in healthcare for many years. From being a unit secretary and also a CNA in hospitals to doing home health care, she had a special passion to help the elderly and those with disabilities. Rachel lovingly assisted her grandmother while she was under hospice care in August 2021 and also enjoyed spending time with her grandfather who lived many years with Alzheimer's. While working for healthcare organizations and taking care of elderly patients or people with disabilities she would often take them on shopping trips or bring them their favorite snacks. She would watch their favorite TV shows with them, read the Bible to them and would make them feel so special. More than once she was thanked with kind gifts from their family members.
Rachel also loved to shop, cook, garden, travel, create and decorate. She had so much fun selling items on Posh mark. Outside of healthcare that was probably one of her favorite full time jobs. She would spend countless hours trying to make her customers happy. As soon as an order was placed she would make sure it was ready for the post office.
Rachel was also very patriotic.
She was a great cook and also had fun eating out. Rachel would bake delicious key lime cheesecake to share at family gatherings. Her favorite soup to make was white chicken chili and she was always ready to enjoy Mexican or Asian cuisine. Bubble tea was a favorite drink.
Rachel would often send hilarious memes to make you laugh. And they did.
Rachel loved her four brothers, their spouses, and children very much! And they all loved her as well.
Rachel is survived by her parents, Marty and Bev Zide who will love and miss her until they see her again. She leaves behind her four brothers- Samuel, Matthew (Kori), Aaron (Rebecca), and Nathan (Micayla). Additionally, she is survived by two uncles, Ted Mills and Gary (Charlene) Zide, as well as her niece and two nephews and cousins Wendy, Alan, Shane, Heather, and Scott.
She was preceded in death by her two grandfathers, Robert Mills and Sam Zide; her two grandmothers, Gilma Mills, and Frieda Zide; and her uncle, Louis (Donna) Zide and her aunt, Del (Norm) Wenneker.
Thank you so much to all of you who were her friends and encouraged and blessed her in so many ways! She appreciated each and every one of you! And as her family, so do we. We thank the Lord for you.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to either Brooklyn Tabernacle Church, Brooklyn, New York, Samaritan’s Purse, or the Down Syndrome Association of Greater St. Louis or an animal shelter of your choice in memory of Rachel.
Rachel is now enjoying the indescribable splendors of Heaven. We will always miss her very much, but we know she is so happy to be home with Jesus and family and friends.
But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” First Corinthians 2:9
