Our Savior Jesus Christ has destroyed death and brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel. Let us remember with thanksgiving what God has done through His servant, Rev. Lloyd James Helland.
Lloyd James Helland was given life by his Creator and was born on September 16, 1951, the child of Lester and Verlayn (Tveit) Helland. He was reborn as a child of God in the waters of Holy Baptism on October 14, 1951 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scarville, Iowa. On April 11, 1965 he was confirmed in the Christian faith and was fed the life-giving body and blood of Jesus, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hollandale, Minnesota.
He was united in holy marriage to Valerie Faye Hamilton on July 20, 1973, and blessed with 45 years of married life together. God also blessed them with the gift of three children: Rachel, Joel, and Ruth.
Lloyd served congregations in Dighton, Kansas, Guttenberg/McGregor, Iowa, Warsaw, Missouri, and Okawville, Illinois. After retiring, Lloyd and his wife Valerie moved to St. Louis, Missouri in 2009 to be near their children and their families.
On Saturday, August 18, at the age of 66, God blessed Lloyd with a holy death and he fell asleep in Jesus to await the resurrection of the dead.
Lloyd is survived by his wife Valerie and their three children: Rachel (Tim) Bausch, Joel (Erin) Helland, and Ruth (Justin) Young as well as eight beloved grandchildren: Aliya, Myla, Rebekah, Moriah, Josiah, Parker, Landon, and Avery. He was greatly loved and will be truly missed by a host of other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lester and Verlayn Helland and his brother Lyle Helland.
The Lord gives and the Lord takes away; blessed be the name of the Lord. We give thanks to God our Father through Jesus Christ, our Lord, for our brother, Lloyd James Helland.
