Richard Lee Murphy, 85, of St. Charles, Missouri passed away on January 31, 2021.
He was born in Gallatin County, Illinois on September 18, 1935, the son of the late Aaron and Essie Murphy where he grew up in a farming community attending Oak Grove Baptist Church and graduating from Eldorado High School.
Richard is survived by one son Richard, Jr. (Rick), daughter in law Susan and grandsons Ethan and Elliott of Weldon Spring, Missouri, sisters in laws Sharon (Estes) Johnson of Bowling Green, KY, Carolyn (Estes) Watson Henshaw of Harrisburg, IL and Pamela (Estes) Adams of Statesboro, Georgia; one brother in law Robert Allen of Seven Lakes, North Carolina, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Judith of St. Charles, Missouri and Bowling Green, KY; sisters Wanda Dillard of Bethalto, Illinois, Mary Jane Allen of Seven Lakes, North Carolina and Lucille Robinson of Las Vegas, NV; and brothers Aaron Murphy of Melbourne, Florida and Kenneth Murphy of Merrillville, Indiana.
Richard served in the United States Army as a Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic during the Korean War. He enjoyed a long career in manufacturing with General Motors Company first in St. Louis, Missouri and later in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Over his lifetime he thoroughly enjoyed cars and trucks, owning many types and always shopping for others. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and followed both Indy car and NASCAR racing closely. He enjoyed deer hunting, a cold beer, traveling and spending time with friends and family. In later years he devoted each day to caring for his wife, Judy who succumbed to lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Visitation will be at Newcomer Funeral Home 837 Mid Rivers Mall Drive, St. Peters, Missouri on Wednesday February 3rd from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and at Reeds Funeral Chapel 503 East Sloan Street, Harrisburg, Illinois ,on Thursday February 4th from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with burial immediately following at Sunset Lawn Cemetery Harrisburg, Illinois.
