Robert "Bob" Otte, aged 92, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday Oct 10, 2023.
He was the loving husband for 71 years of Dorothy "Dot" (Bohnert) Otte until she entered eternal rest July 17, 2023.
He was a wonderful father to Debra (Rick) Maclvor, Robert (Diane) Otte, and Sue (Mike) Mullen; dear grandfather of Rebecca (John) Burns, Kelly Mullen, Ellen (Mike) Royal, Robert (Stephanie) Otte, Vince (Jessica) Mullen and Ricky (Jennifer) MacIvor; cherished great-grandfather of Lucas, Ayden, Owen, Blake, Renee, Claire, Mike, Liam, Harper, Wesley, Willow, Gavin, and Sky; dear son of the late Robert and Stella Otte and stepson of the late Leo Defani.
Bob married his grade school sweetheart, Dot, on July 28,1951. Bob as a newlywed joined the Air Force during the Korean War. He and Dot spent his time in the Air Force stationed in San Antonio, Texas.
Family and friends can tell you what a close and loving relationship Bob and Dot shared for 71 years. Throughout his life Bob was an avid reader. He was especially interested in the Civil War. Every summer when their three children were young, he drove their popup camping trailer to a different Civil War battlefield. Summertime meant "family vacation," which meant "another battlefield."
Bob was very dedicated and active in the Boys Scouts of America. He fulfilled duties at many levels, including scout master. Bob and Dot had a long list of things they enjoyed doing together. Besides traveling, they liked to square dance, ride bicycles on the Katy Trail, play countless games of Rummikube, and spending time at their lake house.
Many years ago, Bob took a class to learn the art of hand quilting. Throughout the years, he made numerous hand pieced and hand quilted quilts. Dot was by his side helping to cut fabric and most of the time did the quilt biding. Bob had finished a quilt for his last great-grandchild and was working on another "just for fun." His amazing talent for quilting was even more amazing by the fact that Bob's life long career was as a mechanic on big trucks!!
He will be missed by all lucky enough to have called him dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, father-in-law, neighbor, and friend.
Memorial donations may be made in Bob's honor to the American Breast Cancer Society.
