Roger Wayne Bennett, age 86, of Wentzville, Missouri passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2024 in Wentzville, Missouri. He was born in Crowder, Missouri on September 11, 1937 to Chester and Jewell Bennett (nee Miller).
Roger spent 34 years serving his country in the Missouri Air National Guard. Master Sergeant Bennett also served as a full time technician in the civil service as a jet engine mechanic. He was a 33rd degree Mason. A lifelong member of the Zion Primitive Baptist Church in Springfield, Missouri. Also a member of the Dardenne Baptist Church in O'Fallon, Missouri. After his retirement from the Air National Guard, Roger had multiple rewarding jobs. With his love of people, he worked the last 10 years at the Sam's Club in Wentzville as a greeter. He spent time volunteering with the O'Fallon Veteran's Affairs. He was awarded in 2014 The President's Volunteer Service Award by President Barack Obama and again in 2018 with a Bronze Award by President Donald Trump. He had a lifelong fascination with aircraft and everything aviation. He loved reading Louis L'Amour.
Roger is survived by his wife, Sue Bennett in a 64 year marriage; four children, Terri (Tom) McKeon, Judi Bennett, William (Carol) Bennett, James (Nancy) Bennett; four grandchildren, Tori (John), Charlie, Hayden, Stephen; two great-grandchildren, Leonidas, Julian; sister, Kathie Bennett; and a host of other family members and friends. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He loved his family dearly.
He was preceded in death by his father, Chester Troy Bennett; mother, Jewell Lucille Bennett; mother-in-law, Holland Bowlby; father-in-law, Harold Bowlby; and grandchild, Tommy.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm with a Celebration of Life following at 12:00 pm Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Dardenne Baptist Church located at 2345 Oak Dr, O'Fallon, MO 63368. Interment will be private.
