Roy W. Kessler died peacefully surrounded by his family on January 19, 2017.
Roy is survived by his wife Patricia (Bollinger) Kessler; 3 children Roy Kessler, Rona (Eric) Nischbach and Kevin Kessler; 7 grandchildren Christine Kessler, Korina Kessler, Timothy Dwiggins, Sean Kessler, Kylie Pearce, Samantha Nischbach and Jeremy Nischbach; 6 great-grandchildren Genevieve, Hannah, Nohelani, Addalynn, Kaidyn and Parker; 4 sisters Dorothy Jean Vaughan, Blanche Elizabeth (George) Trump, Patricia Luela McDaniel and Carol Sue (Dale) Taylor; 2 brothers Donald Dean (Bonnie) Litts and James Earl Litts; 1 sister-in-law Judy Litts; 1 brother-in-law Stephen F. Bollinger; many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his beloved cat, Callie.
He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Hazel Kessler; 4 brothers Willard Roy Litts, Kenneth Charles Litts, Robert Allen Litts and Gerold Fred Litts; 2 brother-in-laws Donald Vaughan and Joe McDaniels; 1 sister Virginia Ann Bryant; 2 sister-in-laws Elva Litts and Ruby Litts.
Roy and his 6 brothers all proudly served in the U.S. Navy. Roy's advocacy for veterans continued after leaving the Navy. He retired from the St. Louis Police Department as a Patrolman on April 30, 1983 and purchased Ze Left Bank Lounge and Grill in Cool Valley, Missouri. An active member in the AMVETS Post 106 in St. Peters, Missouri, AMVETS Department of Missouri; AMVETS Sad Sacks; American Legion Post 312 in St. Charles, Missouri; V.F.W. Post 3944 in Overland, Missouri; POW-MIA Museum at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri; a Past Commander of the AMVETS Post 55 and a Former Board Member of the Normandy Fire District.
The funeral service will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home 837 Mid Rivers Mall Drive St. Peters, Missouri on Tuesday January 24th, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. The interment will follow in National Cemetery Jefferson Barracks with full military honors. A visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home on Monday January 23rd, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in Roy's memory to the AMVETS Post 106, 360 Brown Rd., St Peters, Missouri 63376 to continue Roy's advocacy to veterans.
