Sheilah Davis, a dedicated police officer who served her community for over 40 years, passed away on October 17, 2024. She was born on September 4, 1955, in Saint Louis, Missouri, and she lived a life marked by compassion, dedication, and a commitment to both her profession and her family.
Sheilah began her career as a police officer, in North County Saint Louis before moving to the Webster Groves Police Department, where she started the DARE program, and headed the Explorer program as well as working with at-risk children. Sheilah attended and graduated from the FBI National Academy to help her grow in her skills and to better serve her community. Her passion for helping others led her to join the Chesterfield Police Department in 1989, where she continued her work as a detective and ultimately retired as a Lieutenant in 2023. Her contributions to the department and the community were profound, and her legacy of service will be remembered by many, especially those she mentored throughout the years.
In her personal life, Sheilah was a caring and compassionate person who cherished her family. She valued the moments spent with her loved ones and always sought to create lasting memories. A lover of travel, Sheilah particularly enjoyed her adventures to Hawaii, often traveling with her dear friend, Vickie. She also indulged in the occasional visit to the casino and spent many joyful hours in the great outdoors, participating in trail runs and various 5k and 10k races.
Sheilah attended Maryville University, where she laid the educational foundation for her successful career in law enforcement.
She is survived by her two sisters, Karen (Kevin) Gerli and Maureen Robertson (Mike Zinna); her brother, Brian Hayden; her sister-in-law, Cindy Hayden; and her nieces and nephews, Kyle Hayden, Katie (Michael) Bornhop, Kevin Hayden Jr., Andrew Hayden, Bradley Robertson, Nellie (Eric) Ellebracht, Christine (Ryan) Sturgill, Kelly (Brennen) Parker, and Patrick Gerli, who will remember her warmth and kindness.
Sheilah was preceded in death by her father, Patrick Joseph Hayden, Jr.; her mother, Letha Mae Hayden; her two brothers, Patrick Joseph Hayden, III and Kevin Hayden; and her niece, Elizabeth "Lizzy" Hayden.
A visitation will be held on October 28, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, West County, located at 2211 Clarkson Rd, Chesterfield, MO. A Mass will follow on October 29, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Ascension Church, 230 Santa Maria Drive, Chesterfield, MO. She will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery, Ballwin, MO, in a graveside service beginning at 11:30 AM on the same day.
