Stephen C. Janaske, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2024, in St. Louis, Missouri, surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 10, 1952, in Arlington, Virginia, Stephen lived a life full of love, commitment and unwavering support for his family.
A proud graduate of High Point University, class of 1974, Steve cultivated lifelong friendships during his time in Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. His dedication to his studies and his community laid a strong foundation for the values he would impart to his children and grandchildren.
Steve was a devoted family man who took immense pride in his role as a father and grandfather. He always went the extra mile to be present at every event that his children participated in, whether it was traveling to support his daughter at her skating competitions or cheering on their softball teams. He also embraced the adventures of fatherhood by actively participating in his son’s Boy Scout events, including a memorable camping trip with his son at Uncle Jay's house in Virginia during the National Boy Scout Jamboree. These experiences not only solidified family bonds but also created lasting memories that will be treasured forever.
His generous spirit and helpful nature were shining traits throughout his life. Steve was known for being dependable and was always there when anyone needed a hand. He enjoyed the simple joys in life, from washing and detailing his cars to spending time caring for his yard. However, his greatest joy came from spending time with family. Steve would often visit relatives across the country, strengthening family ties and ensuring that love and laughter filled every gathering.
He celebrated 49 beautiful years of marriage with his devoted wife, Lorinda Janaske, who was by his side through all of life’s moments. Together, they nurtured a family that brought them both immense pride—his children, Laura (Karen) Janaske, Michael (Allison) Janaske, and Emily (Tim) Montgomery, along with his adoring grandchildren, Meredith, Charlotte, Blake, Natalie, Louis, and Jackson.
Steve is also survived by his brother, Paul (Rebecca) Janaske, Jr., who will carry forward his brother's legacy of love and compassion. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Paul Janaske, Sr. and Virginia Janaske, whose values shaped the man he became.
A memorial gathering to honor Steve's life will be held on October 19, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Newcomer Funeral Home in Chesterfield, Missouri. Family and friends are invited to come together to share memories, celebrate his legacy, and support one another during this difficult time.
As we remember Stephen C. Janaske, we uphold his powerful example of love, kindness, and loyalty, and we will carry his spirit with us in our hearts forever.
