Stephen Robert Pohl, affectionately known as Steve, was born on August 24, 1958, in Washington, Missouri. He lived a life full of passion, love, and laughter, leaving a remarkable legacy that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. On January 8, 2025, Steve passed peacefully at his home in O'Fallon, surrounded by the warmth of cherished memories.
A dedicated carpenter and flooring installation specialist, Steve poured his heart into his work, displaying the traits of a strong-willed and hard-working individual. He approached each project not just as a job but as an opportunity to weave stories into the fabric of his life, echoing the wisdom he imparted to his beloved twin daughters: “Always do something you can tell a story about later.” This principle guided him through life, as he embraced everything he did with a sense of adventure and a sprinkle of his goofy charm.
Steve's education culminated at Duchesne High School, where he began forming the foundations of the loving, fun-loving spirit that characterized his journey. His playful personality allowed him to make friends wherever he went—a testament to his ability to connect with others and spread joy. He had a zest for life that was infectious, always ready to take on new challenges and enjoy the little moments, whether surrounded by family or friends.
A fervent sports enthusiast, Steve had a particular fondness for Nascar and football, often enthusiastically cheering for his favorite teams. His love for the outdoors manifested in his gardening passions, earning him the endearing nickname “Mr. Green Jeans.” He was also an avid puzzler and enjoyed putting together many scenic jigsaw puzzles.
Family was Steve’s proudest accomplishment. He cherished his twin daughters, Sarah (Ron) Wilhelms and Sally (Jim) Ressler, and took immense pride in his family. He delighted in being a grandfather to Alex and Adrienne Wilhelms, relishing in the joy and laughter they brought into his life. His beloved mother, Margaret Pohl, alongside his siblings—Richard (Samantha) Pohl, Kathy (Blaise) Felder, Julie (John) Clarke, Mary (David) Dirksen, and Amy (Penn) Driller—held a special place in his heart. He celebrated many family gatherings filled with laughter, stories, and love, and his bond with his nieces and nephews was a treasure.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Robert Pohl.
As we remember Stephen Robert Pohl, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a spirit that will forever linger in the stories he told and the love he shared. His legacy is one of family, adventure, and a deep commitment to enjoying every moment life offers. Steve, you will be missed dearly, but your laughter, kindness, and love will echo in our lives, reminding us to always find joy in our journeys.
