Steven E. Hyland, a cherished father, devoted husband, beloved grandfather, and treasured brother, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2025, in Chesterfield, Missouri, after a lengthy illness. Born on February 11, 1953, in St. Louis, Missouri, Steve was a remarkable soul who touched the lives of many with his unique humor and unwavering love.
A proud veteran, Steven served his country with honor in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. His dedication to service reflected a deep sense of duty and integrity that he carried throughout his life. After his military service, he pursued his education with great determination, earning a Bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri at Rolla and a Master's degree from Washington University, both in Engineering. His professional journey saw him working for numerous esteemed establishments, including Westinghouse, Hussman, and Nordyne, where he excelled in both consulting and teaching roles.
Steven was fiercely proud of his family. He was married to his beloved wife, Mary Hyland, and together they created a warm and loving home. Steve's children often reminisce about their father being a constant presence at their sporting events during their formative years, providing steadfast support and unconditional love. His children, Christopher Hyland, Zachary (Laura) Hyland, Sarah Hyland, and Theresa Hyland, and step-children, Tim Malloy and Dawn (the late John) Palmer, carry forward the values he instilled within them and the joyous memories of his involvement in their lives.
As a grandfather, Steven found immense joy in nurturing his relationship with his grandchildren: Rochelle Hyland, Allison Palmer, Mckayla Timmerman, Anthony Palmer, and Matthew Timmerman. His legacy of love and laughter extends to them, just as it touched his siblings, Kevin (Nancy) Hyland, Kathlyn (Jack) Wood, Karen Hyland, and Cheryl (Alex) Acosta.
Steve was a man of diverse interests, passionate about genealogy, studying history, and collecting coins. His fascination with antiquing also reflected his appreciation for the past and the stories each piece held. His vast coin collection became a point of pride, much like his diligent investigations into his family lineage, which showcased his commitment to preserving his heritage.
Though he has been preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Joyce Hyland, Steven leaves behind a legacy of warmth, humor, and kindness. Friends and family will miss the light he brought into their lives. They will remember him fondly for his unique sense of humor that could brighten any room.
