Susan Lyn Elik, nee Weigel, affectionately known as Gma, passed away on July 5, 2024, in O'Fallon, Missouri, at the age of 71. Born on May 3, 1953 in St. Louis, Missouri, she was a beacon of love and charisma throughout her life.
Susan graduated from McCluer High School in 1971 and furthered her education at St. Mary's Nursing School. She dedicated her career to caring for the elderly as a Geriatric Licensed Practical Nurse at Manor Healthcare, where her nurturing nature made a significant impact on many lives.
Married to Jim Elik on April 19, 1974, Susan celebrated a beautiful and loving marriage of 50 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, cherishing every moment with her family. Susan leaves behind her husband, Jim; daughter, Dawn Claggett and son-in-law, Ron Claggett; grandson, Collin Claggett; grandaughters, Kailey Pellerito and husband Brendan, Kate Atterberry and significant other Cory; sister, Barbara Weston and brother-in-law, Dean; along with countless cousins and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Joseph and Shirley Weigel; brother, Joe "Butch" Weigel; aunt (god mother) and uncle, Dolores "Dee" and John "Jack" McLoughlin.
Susan was a vibrant soul who loved traveling to the beach (while sipping on pina coladas), gardening, and losing herself in a good book. Her wit and loving presence were the cornerstone of many family gatherings. She was warm-hearted, passionate, brave, and lead with her heart, even when she said, "That's nice."
Respecting her wishes, there will be no traditional service; instead, a Celebration of Life will be held by her family to honor the wonderful memories they shared.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association in Susan's Memory.
