Susan Mary Young

November 4, 1941 — October 16, 2024

Dardenne Prairie, MO

Susan Mary Young, known lovingly as Sue, was born on November 4, 1941, in St. Louis, Missouri. She passed away on October 16, 2024, in O'Fallon, Missouri, leaving behind a legacy filled with love, warmth, and steadfast faith.

Sue was a devoted Accounting Specialist at the Venture Stores Corporate Office, where her keen attention to detail shone bright. However, her most cherished title was that of a mother. Her pride and joy stemmed from her children and family, who she loved fiercely and unconditionally. These bonds were woven together by countless memories, each echoing her enduring affection.

The holidays, especially Christmas, were particularly special for Sue. She delighted in gathering her children into her bedroom to share a gift that transcended material value—a small ornament that served as a music box. Nestled within was a handwritten note that simply read, "I love you eternally - Mom." Such gestures embody her nurturing spirit; they offer a glimpse into her loving nature and her desire to create lasting moments of connection.

Sue's laughter was another hallmark of her existence, a sound that filled any room with joy and comfort. She was known for her Thanksgiving speeches that, while lengthy, captivated everyone in attendance. Her steadfast faith and elegant demeanor made her a pillar of strength in her family, and her selflessness manifested in her commitment to volunteering at places like Birthright and local nursing homes, including Garden View.

Beyond her familial and philanthropic endeavors, Sue had a zest for life that included bowling, decorating, and shopping, pursuits that brought her joy and relaxation. She was not just a mother; she was a friend, a confidante, and a beacon of kindness.

Susan is survived by her loving spouse of 44 years, Pete, and her five children: Laurie (Mark) Maassen, Lisa (Michael) Lennon, Billy (Kathy) Audrain, Lynn (Joe Lombardozzi) Waldhauser, and Chrissy (Victor Tinsley) Young. She is also remembered with love by her sister, Phyllis Mees, and sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Trenn and Susan (Terry) Lynn. The bond with her grandchildren—Abigail Price, Anna Lennon, Jamie (Carson) Shocklee, Melissa Barabasz, Nick (Danielle) Audrain, Philip (Andrea) Billingham, Alex Maassen, and Taylor Price—was something she cherished deeply. Her great-grandchildren—Alec, Eden, Guinevere, Kaydence, Owen, Parker, Paxton, Payton, Presleigh, Rylan, and Stella—were a source of immense pride and joy, amplifying her legacy as a devoted matriarch. In addition to her immediate family, Sue had many nieces and nephews as well as a host of family and friends who will miss her everyday, including her pen pal of 68 years, Terry.

She was preceded in death by her father, Philip Arthur Trenn, her mother, Florence Elizabeth Trenn, her brother, Thomas Trenn, her brother-in-law, William Mees, her parents-in-law, Jimmy Young and Sue Young and her best friend, Julie Keele. Each of these individuals held a special place in her heart, and their memories continue to resonate within the family she cherished.

As we gather to honor Susan’s life, we will reflect on the laughter, love, and resilience she shared with us all. Visitation will be held at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in O'Fallon, Missouri, on November 4, 2024, starting at 9:30 AM, followed by a Mass at 10:30 AM.
