Terrence Mark McGinnis, age 73, of Chesterfield, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 in Wentzville, Missouri. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska on February 2, 1950 to Lyle and Betty McGinnis (nee Carlson). He was married to the love of his life, Beverly McGinnis (nee Borden) for 48 years.
Terry served 3 years in the United States Marine Corps before joining the FBI as a Special Agent in 1973. His career began in field offices of Detroit, where he served on the SWAT team until he and his family moved back to his hometown of St. Louis in 1984. He continued his highly decorated career there serving as a SWAT Team Leader, Primary Firearms and Tactics Instructor, and Violent Crime/Fugitive Task Force Coordinator. Terry was also a recipient of the FBI Medal of Honor and the FBI Star. He spent much of his career traveling domestically and internationally, including the Middle-East to assist with terrorist investigations. Following his retirement from the FBI in 2006, Terry continued to provide firearms and tactics instruction, as well as security services. He truly loved what he did.
Terry was a humble, loving, family man. He loved boating, fishing, traveling, watching sports, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Terry is survived by his Son, Terrence (Julie) D. McGinnis; Daughter, Sharon (Robert) Butler; Sister, Pamela (Terry)Robertson; Brother, Kelly (Dawn) McGinnis; Seven grandchildren, London Butler, Owen Butler, Evan Butler, Grady McGinnis, Harper McGinnis, Henry McGinnis, Hudson McGinnis; and a host of other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his Wife, Beverly McGinnis; Father, Lyle Dean McGinnis; Mother, Betty Jean McGinnis; Two Brothers, Scott McGinnis, Kevin McGinnis.
Visitation will be Monday, January 29, 2024 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at St. Peters Chapel, Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 837 Mid Rivers Mall Drive, St. Peters, Missouri 63376. Additional visitation will take place the following morning, January 30, 2024 from 10:00am until 11:00am also at Newcomer St. Peters. A funeral ceremony will immediately follow at 11:00am with interment at St. Charles Memorial Gardens following.
