Thomas E. Hickey, age 54, of Lake St. Louis, passed away May 15th, 2018 at his home. Tom was born January 29th, 1964 in Maryland Heights, Missouri to Ramon and Helen (Lerch) Hickey. He was employed with Vatterott College for several years. Tom married the love of his life, Melanie, on May 7th, 1994.
He was an avid hockey fan, especially when it came to cheering on the St. Louis Blues. Tom also enjoyed cooking; a favorite of his was barbeque. He loved spending time on his boat, playing drums and caring for his loveable dogs. Tom was a devoted husband, brother, son and uncle cherishing the time spent with his family and friends. He always felt blessed to be a surrounded by an incredible group of individuals. During his lifetime, Tom was a recipient of two organ transplants and often gave thanks to those that made that possible. No words could ever express his appreciation for those willing to give so much and asking for nothing in return.
He is survived by his loving wife, Melanie (Travers) Hickey, with whom he just celebrated 24 years of marriage; his mother, Helen Hutchingson; siblings, Steven (Laurie) Hickey, Kathleen (Timothy) McGahan, Robert (Teresa) Hickey and Monica Kleinman; mother-in-law, Barbara Travers; sister-in-law, Melissa (Mark) Whitaker; his nieces and nephews, Amy (Shade), Marie, Bryan, Brendan, Matthew, David, Erin and Laine. Also left to celebrate Tom's life are many aunts, uncles, cousins; and not least, his lifelong friend, Allen Elfrank. He also leaves his furbabies, Stormy and Winter of the Home.
In addition to his father, Ramon Hickey, Tom was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Kenneth Hutchingson and father-in-law, Charles Travers.
Also preceding Tom in death and more than likely playing with him now at the Rainbow Bridge, are the dogs and 1 cat who spent their lives with him; Tucker, Sadie, Holly and Angel (cat), Blackie and Tipper.
The family will receive guests Saturday, May 19th, 2018 from 2-4:00 p.m. at Newcomer, St. Peters Chapel, 837 Mid Rivers Mall Dr. (636-875-1200). A Memorial Service to celebrate Tom's life will begin Saturday at 4:00 pm.
Those wishing to make a Memorial Contribution in Tom's memory are asked to consider The Humane Society, Midwest Transplant Services, the National Kidney Foundation or the American Heart Association.
