Vernon G. Gaskell, Sr., age 96, of Sunset Hills, Missouri passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2023 in Sunset Hills, Missouri. He was born in Grapeville, Pennsylvania on November 16, 1926 to William and Genevieve Gaskell (nee Guy).
Vernon is survived by his children, Guy (Kimberly) Gaskell and Lauren (David) Hawse; grandchildren, Bradley Gaskell, Caitlin (Melanie) Layer-Gaskell, Corey (Elizabeth) Hawse, Ashley (Scott) Chartrand, and Brendan Hawse, great-grandchildren, Dalton Layer-Gaskell, Evelyn Chartrand, Isla Chartrand, Luke Chartrand, and Madeline Hawse; niece, Renee Levinson; and nephew, Michael (Amy) Levinson.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Minnie Gaskell; father, William Gaskell; mother, Genevieve Gaskell; and sister, Naomi (John Paul) Levinson.
Vernon (Vern) attended the University of Rochester where he played football and graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree. He began his career with Robertshaw Controls located in Westmoreland, Pennsylvania eventually relocating with his family to St. Louis, Missouri. In 1969 Vern started his own business Tempset Inc. a temperature sensing manufacturing operation located in St. Louis, Missouri. The business became very successful with over 100 employees. Vern retired in 2002 and moved with his wife to Naples, Florida. After retirement Vern became an avid golfer, playing as much as 4 to 5 times per week. He had his first Hole-in-One at age 90. He continued to play golf and remain socially active until the age of 93 at which point his Alzheimer's had progressed to needing full time care, so he moved back to St. Louis, Missouri to live his remaining years with his son & daughter-in-law, Guy & Kim Gaskell. Vern was a wonderful man & father throughout his life. One of the most generous, kind & positive persons you'll ever meet. He will be truly missed by those who knew him. Vern's final resting place along with his wife, Minnie will be Resurrection Cemetery, St. Louis Missouri. Honoring Vern's wishes, services will be held privately.
