Violet May Zigler, age 95, of Foristell, Missouri passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2023, in Foristell, Missouri.
Violet was born on October 9, 1928, in Franklin County, St. Clair, Missouri to Floyd and Addie Vaughn. There she attended a one-room schoolhouse from first to eighth grade and started writing stories at an early age. She read them to her family by a coal oil lamp and was encouraged to write more. Mrs. Zigler attended Northeast Missouri State University before earning her associate degree from St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley. She also attended St. Louis University where she earned continuing education credits in management development for home health care. Violet then owned and operated Vaughn Professional Health Care for several years before retiring. The mother of five grown children, she also earned a degree from the Institute for Children's Literature and includes as her hobbies watercolor painting and enjoying the wonders of nature.
Violet is survived by her Two Sons, Terry (Dorothy) Zigler, Clay Zigler; Two Daughters, Myrna (Charles) Carter of Grover, MO, and Christina (Wayne) Weber of Ferguson, MO; 58 Grand and Great-Grandkids; her siblings, Betty Oermann, Helen (Vaughn) Wendt, and Joyce (Vaughn) Sherlock; and a host of other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Zigler; Father, Floyd Vaughn; Mother, Addie Vaughn; and Son, Larry Zigler; Lily Vaughn, Forrest Vaughn, Douglas Vaughn, William Vaughn, Vernon Vaughn, Jesse Vaughn and Nellie Hansel.
A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at 11:00am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church located at 8 Hwy D, New Melle, MO 63365. A short visitation will take place before mass from 10:00am until 11:00am. Interment will immediately follow mass at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
