Vita Mazal O'Hare

November 3, 1937 — October 2, 2024

“For the good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been, is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs.” -George Eliot, Middlemarch

Vita O'Hare, formerly Vita White/Weissbluth, born on November 3, 1937, in Haifa, Israel, passed away on October 2, 2024, in Chesterfield, Missouri. A cherished member of the St. Louis community, she will be remembered as a loving wife and mother, and for her dedication as a nurse and her passion for the arts.

Vita spent her life graced by her love for opera and classical music, attending performances at the Fox.  The botanical gardens and science museum were St. Louis favorites she frequented with her family, friends, and grandchildren.

As an RN and later hospice caregiver, Vita devoted her career to the well-being of her patients, leaving an indelible mark on the lives she touched through her compassion and commitment. Her legacy continues through her family, including her sons, Michael O'Hare (Simona) and Mark O'Hare (Julie), and her beloved grandchildren, Liam and Tristan O'Hare, who will carry forward her values and memory.

Vita is survived by her family and will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas O'Hare, her father, Henry Simon Weissbluth, and her mother, Anna Berta Weissbluth. Her life was one of service, art, and love.

Vita O'Hare was 17 years old when she emigrated to America in May 1955 with her parents from Haifa, Israel. The Weissbluths escaped from Nazi Germany in 1937 to what was then Palestine and under the British mandate.

She graduated from Mount Sinai Hospital Nursing School in Cleveland, worked for four years as an OR nurse in Southern California and then after raising her family in St. Louis, returned to the OR at St. Anthony's in 1992 and later St. Johns Mercy.

Her family would like to thank all of those friends and co-workers of Vita's that have for these many years been there for her and the family.  We are forever grateful for your love.
