Willard W. Varnado II, age 86, of Lake Saint Louis, Missouri passed away on Monday, February 22, 2021. He was born in Wiggins, Mississippi on December 25, 1934 to Willard and Edith Varnado.
Will graduated from Wiggins Consolidated High School in 1952. Will was Salutatorian of his class, National Honor Society member, and lettered in football and basketball.
He enrolled in Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University) in the fall of 1952 and graduated with a degree in chemical engineering in 1957. While there, he participated in the football and wrestling programs. He was inducted into the Scabbard and Blade Military Honorary Society and served as President of Phi Kappa Tau for two years.
After graduation, Will began his professional career with the Linde Division of Union Carbide. This was interrupted by military service (as a marine) for a short period, after which Will returned to graduate studies in mathematics at Auburn.
In 1959 Will began working for Carbide Nitrogen Corporation in Guanica, Puerto Rico as a Process Engineer. In 1963 Will returned to the continental U.S. and began his career with Monsanto at the Chocolate Bayou plant near Houston, Texas. Will remained at Chocolate Bayou until late 1980.
In September 1980, Will accepted a position as Director of Manufacturing for the Process Chemicals Division of Monsanto and moved his family to St. Louis, Missouri.
Will met Carole Rhinehart while working at Monsanto in 1988. In 1990 Will retired from Monsanto to take a job in Austin, Texas. On July 1, 1993 Will and Carole were married at Kirkwood Baptist Church in St. Louis.
In December of 1994, Will took a job in Houston, Texas. In 1998 Will decided to permanently retire. He leaves behind his wife, Carole Varnado; his three children from his first marriage, Eric (Patty) Varnado, Sharon (Kevin) Hudson and Jean (Theresa) Varnado; his grandchildren, Brandon (Sarah) Hudson, Bryce (Rachel) Hudson, Brady (Kelsy) Hudson, Thomas (Melissa) Guerrero, Andrew (Jackie) Guerrero, Andrea Varnado and Lily Varnado; his six great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Gloria (Henry) Williams and Lewis (Tricia) Varnado. He will be dearly missed by a host of other friends, family and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his father, Willard Wilson Varnado I; his mother, Edith Rufina Varnado; and his sister, Sandy Surratt.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 11:00 am with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 am both on Friday, February 26, 2021 at Morning Star Church, 1600 Feise Rd #7345, Dardenne Prairie, MO 63368. Interment will be private.
