Winford "Woody" Wood, age 70, of Wentzville, Missouri passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2018. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri on August 30, 1947 to Hyle and Alice Wood (nee Hardin). He was happily married to Marlaine Wood (nee Prize) for 42 years.
Winford was the owner of Woody's Music Store in Warrenton, Missouri for 16 years closing in 2013. Post-high school he served two years in the Army and worked for the United States Postal Service for 26 years, retiring in 1994. He also worked part-time as a professional photographer for many years.
He had a passion for music, playing guitar and several other instruments. He worked with his hands, building his own home with the help of his father in 1973 where he lived for the rest of his life with his wife and raised his children. Winford enjoyed riding his motorcycle and working on cars. He earned his private pilot license in 1976. He loved to read and learn new things. He selflessly served others in countless practical ways. His mild manner and good humor endeared him to many. His faith was strong and he loved his church and the people in it. His family was everything.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hyle and Alice Wood, in-laws, Gilbert (Mae Rose) Prize and brother-in-law, Gary Prize.
Winford is survived by his wife, Marlaine A. Wood; children, dearest Sarah E. (Christian) Seriosa and beloved Samuel A. Wood; siblings, Allan R. (Vicki) Wood and Rosella K. (Clyde) Helm; siblings-in-law, Joni Prize (Gary's widow), Douglas (Lisa) Prize, Martin (Joanne) Prize and Cynthia (Bob) Wilhelm and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
Visitation will be held at Newcomer Cremations, Funeral and Receptions 837 Mid Rivers Mall Dr. St. Peters, MO 63376 from 4:00-8:00 pm on Tuesday, January 23, 2018. A second visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 am at Assumption Catholic Church. Mass will be 10:30 am Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Assumption Catholic Church 403 North Main Street O'Fallon, Missouri 63366 with Father Mitch Doyen officiating. Interment will follow the Mass at Assumption Catholic Church Cemetery with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society of Assumption Church.
